Suzi Parron - Barn Quilt Lecture
Per Suzi’s Website: I travel full time by RV, speaking to quilt guilds, libraries, civic organizations--whoever would like to hear more about barn quilts! My talk will take you on a journey along the quilt trail, beginning with the very first barn quilt, which stemmed from Donna Sue Groves and her wish to honor her mother's quilting art. The presentation features over one hundred stunning photographs of barn quilts, some of which rival cloth quilts in their intricacy. You will hear stories of some of the individuals who have painted quilt blocks to honor loved ones or their local culture, along with a few humorous anecdotes. The presentation is both informative and entertaining, as we explore the way in which our quilting heritage takes on new meaning as this movement continues to expand. Please email suziparron@gmail.com or phone 678-478-6906 for further information.
October- Monday, October 11, 2021:
Sue Glass - Prepared Edge Applique is Fun and Easy
Sue is a longtime quilter who discovered the way to applique in about 2009 although she has been quilting since the mid 1970’s. Before that she pieced everything and hoped that no applique would be involved. Since then, she has discovered the delights and pitfalls of sewing little circles, houses, leaves, stems, and various other items onto her quilts. Her use of color and pattern gives her quilts their very own personality which she tries to change with each new project.
Sue will talk about and demonstrate how to use the prepared edge method of applique to achieve those lovely round circles and edges common in her work. Her lecture includes information on and demonstration of how to prepare your project, make the extra items like bias stems and circles, the use of different basting techniques, and how to set up an applique block to its best advantage.
